On a fresh install useAuthOnboarding's effect ran at mount before the
setup wizard's 500ms auto-open timer fired. The one-shot ref locked,
and the resolved fetch could either stack model onboarding on top of
the wizard or never re-trigger after the wizard closed.
- Gate the trigger on projectId being set so the wizard owns the
bootstrap phase; the auth check only fires once a project exists.
- Re-check setupWizardOpen via a ref when the auth fetch resolves to
avoid stacking onboarding on top of a wizard opened mid-fetch.
- Release the one-shot in that suppressed branch so the effect retries
when the wizard closes.
Adds two regression tests: fresh-install handoff and mid-fetch wizard
suppression.

- Update terminal mobile keyboard layout CSS contract expectations for the current mobile modal width and min-height rules
Production typecheck (tsconfig.json + tsconfig.app.json) was already
clean, but a third config that includes test files surfaced 661 errors
across 60+ test files — accumulated drift between mock fixtures and
production types. Six parallel typescript-pro agents fixed every one
without touching production code.
Per-scope before/after (errors → 0):
ChatView 183
Mailbox + Agent suite (5 files) 156
Task / Modal suite (6 files) 127
App + small components (12 files) 96
Hooks + api/auth (8 files) 48
Long tail (32 files) 51
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Total 661
Major fix categories:
- Untyped state objects inferring `never[]` / `null` literals (root
cause of ~120 errors in ChatView alone — added a single
`UseChatReturn` annotation)
- Mock objects missing fields that became required: `WorkflowStep.mode`,
`ChatMessage.thinkingOutput / metadata`, `ChatSession.projectId`,
`Task.log`, `ProjectHealth` fields, `PtyTerminalSessionInfo.createdAt`,
`Agent.metadata`, `InboxResponse.total`, etc.
- Mock objects with stale fields that no longer exist:
`AgentBudgetStatus.budgetPeriod`, `truncated` on log responses,
`OutboxResponse.unreadCount`, `MergeResult.source/target/details`
- Modal props that became required (e.g. `PlanningModeModal.onTasksCreated`)
- String literals not in narrowed unions (`Column`, `WorkflowStepPhase`,
`InsightStatus`, `AgentLogType`, etc.)
- `querySelector` returning `Element` cast to `HTMLElement` for
`@testing-library/react`'s `within()`
- Vitest mock typing: `.mock.calls` access needing `vi.mocked(...)`,
zero-param tuple handling, generic `vi.fn(() => [])` inferring
`never[]`
Helpers introduced in test files (no shared infra):
- `makeSettings(overrides)` in ModelSelectorTab.test.tsx
- `makePromptOverrides(overrides)` in AgentPromptsManager.test.tsx
- `FileBrowserTestOverrides` type alias in FileBrowser.test.tsx
- `makeInboxResponse / makeOutboxResponse` in MailboxView.test.tsx
Verification:
- tsc -p tsconfig.json: exit 0
- tsc -p tsconfig.app.json: exit 0
- tsc -p tsconfig.test-check.json (new — includes test files): exit 0
- vitest run: 9639 / 9641 (2 pre-existing failures
in terminal-mobile-keyboard-layout.test.ts
unrelated to this work; verified via
`git stash` + run on clean HEAD)
Adds packages/dashboard/tsconfig.test-check.json to keep this regression
guard available locally — same as tsconfig.app.json minus the test
exclude.

Modal resize + size persistence
- Extract `useModalResizePersist` hook (ResizeObserver + localStorage),
apply to Files, Git Manager, GitHub Import, Workflow Steps, Automations
(ScheduledTasks), and Settings modals. Each gets `resize: both`, sane
min/max constraints, and a unique storage key.
- Bump default heights so the modals feel less cramped (Git: 92vh,
Workflow/Automation: 80vh, Settings: 80vh / 1100px).
Scrollbar theme
- Add a global `*::-webkit-scrollbar*` + `scrollbar-color` rule in
styles.css so chat, document, system stats, file browser, usage
indicator, etc. inherit the theme. Existing per-component overrides
(.board, .column-body, .settings-sidebar, planning modal) still win.
Document view
- Collapse "Show hidden" toggle and search input onto the same row as
the Project Files / Task Documents segmented control. Stack again
below 768px.
Mailbox / Todos
- Match Todos header treatment to the Mailbox header (typography,
padding, border).
- Add top spacing above Mailbox Inbox/Outbox/Agents tab bar so the
vertical gaps balance.
Settings
- Wider, resizable, persisted Settings modal.
- Project Models description and Authentication panel get proper
horizontal padding.
- Reorder project sidebar so "General" is first.
- Plugins page: clean margins, integrate refresh button, exclude
bundled runtimes from the "Installed Plugins" list (they were
appearing twice — once erroring, once in their own section).
- New "Updates" panel with auto-check toggle + "Check now" button
(frequency control noted as needing a backend schema field).
Background sessions
- Fix stale "AI N" / planning-icon badge: `handleDeleted` in
`useBackgroundSessions` now writes a tombstone, advances the
timestamp guard, and broadcasts completion so the cross-tab
sync store stops resurrecting the deleted session on the next
merge tick. Added regression test.
- Re-fetch list on SSE reconnect so terminal events fired during a
network blip don't get permanently lost.
System stats
- Refresh button uses correct single class (was getting both `btn`
and `btn-icon`, which conflicted on padding/border).

- Document update-check configuration and API behavior in architecture and settings reference docs
- Add a shared useMobileKeyboard hook that tracks visualViewport overlap on mobile browsers
- Apply keyboard overlap CSS variables to QuickChatFAB so fullscreen mobile panels resize above the virtual keyboard
- Apply the same keyboard-aware sizing to ChatView mobile thread layout and auto-scroll messages when keyboard opens
- Expand ChatView, QuickChatFAB, and hook test coverage for mobile keyboard detection and viewport-resize behavior
The X button in the footer's Background Tasks popover silently failed when
ai_sessions.lockedByTab pointed to a stale/closed tab: cancelPlanning et al.
returned 409, dismissSession set lockConflict and bailed before calling
deleteAiSession. Always proceed to delete; the dismissal tombstone already
prevents stale SSE/sync from resurrecting the session.

- Refactor useFavorites callbacks to read latest state instead of closing over stale favorites values
- Ensure add/remove/toggle flows update local state and persistence from a consistent source of truth
- Add regression tests that reproduce stale-closure timing scenarios and verify favorites remain correct
- Expand hook test coverage for rapid consecutive updates to guard against future closure regressions
- Reset memory backend status to unresolved during fetches so stale capabilities are never treated as authoritative
- Gate MemoryView read-only and qmd warning states on resolved backend status and add an explicit checking state for qmd availability
- Update SettingsModal memory editor gating so writes remain enabled while backend status is still loading, then enforce resolved read-only state
- Expand dashboard tests for useMemoryBackendStatus, MemoryView, and SettingsModal to lock in loading, warning, and refresh behavior
- Treat devServer as a legacy alias of canonical devServerView in Experimental Features
- Canonicalize feature keys when rendering and saving settings to prevent duplicate Dev Server rows
- Preserve enabled-state compatibility by reading either key in useAppSettings
- Add regression tests for single-row rendering, alias normalization on save, and legacy hook behavior
- Add dismissal tombstone tracking in useBackgroundSessions to ignore stale refresh, sync, and SSE updates for dismissed session IDs
- Treat terminal session states consistently and broadcast completion on dismiss so local/session-sync state remains converged
- Keep lock-conflicted planning cancellations visible instead of falsely dismissing the session when another tab owns the lock
- Expand useBackgroundSessions regression tests to cover stale sync/SSE resurrection, refresh behavior, lock-conflict handling, and newer-authoritative restore paths
- Introduce a new "project-setup" onboarding step between GitHub and first-task actions
- Gate first-task navigation on project selection and add contextual setup-wizard guidance
- Centralize ordered onboarding step definitions in shared state and reuse them for navigation/progress labels
- Extract ModelOnboardingModal styles into a dedicated component CSS file and update tests/mocks for the new step order
The global SSE broadcast called res.write() without checking the return
value, so a paused or backgrounded client would silently accumulate
every store event for every entity (tasks, missions, plugins, agents,
chat, ...) into res.outputData until the dashboard process OOMed.
Add a 4 MB writableLength threshold; when exceeded, tear down the
connection so the OS releases the buffer.

Mostly mechanical cleanup left over from the earlier test-consolidation pass:
- Update import paths to ../../ for mocks now that test files moved deeper
- Simplify mock setup (drop usePluginUiSlots inline mock, etc.)
- Move engine ipc + runtimes tests into __tests__/ subdirs
- Move dashboard utils tests into __tests__/ subdir
- Refresh fusion-plugin-hermes-runtime/dist artifacts
build-exe.test.ts: spawn-import fix from a parallel branch (resolved during
worktree merge of the CSS extraction work).

Split app/styles.css from ~40k lines down to ~4.5k. Created 56 co-located
component CSS files in app/components/, each imported by its owning .tsx.
The remainder of styles.css holds genuinely global rules (design tokens,
.btn/.card/.modal/.form-input primitives, cross-component @media overrides).
- Lazy-load 13 heavy views (AgentsView, RoadmapsView, NodesView, etc.) via
React.lazy + Suspense; prefetch all chunks on idle so first navigation is
instant. Initial JS bundle: 1.58 MB → 1.16 MB (-26%). Initial CSS bundle:
635 kB → 471 kB (-26%); the rest splits into 13 per-view chunks.
- Add app/test/cssFixture.ts exposing loadAllAppCss() + loadAllAppCssBaseOnly()
so CSS regression tests load the full per-component bundle (mirroring Vite
source order). Migrate 30+ tests off direct readFileSync('../styles.css').
- Enable test.css: { include: [/.+/] } in vitest.config.ts so component CSS
imports actually inject styles in jsdom (fixes getComputedStyle assertions).
- Add ESLint rule (no-restricted-syntax) banning direct styles.css reads in
dashboard test files; points at loadAllAppCss() instead.
- Restore lost utility classes (.text-muted, .text-secondary, .text-dim,
.form-input) and rescue dropped chat tool-call rules into QuickChatFAB.css.
- Mobile fixes along the way: scroll containment for view containers
(min-height:0 + -webkit-overflow-scrolling), QuickChatFAB full-screen on
mobile (with safe-area-inset for iOS home bar), AgentsView single-row
header layout, ActivityLogModal close button on right, model-combobox
z-index above the mobile quick-chat panel.
- Bug fix: SkillsView toggle was display:none which hid the input from the
accessibility tree; replaced with the visually-hidden pattern so screen
readers + getByRole still find the checkbox.
- Bug fix: standalone Delete button in TaskDetailModal for triage-column
tasks (Actions dropdown is hidden in triage state, so previously no way
to delete a freshly-created task without status change first).

- Move all co-located *.test.* files into sibling __tests__/ directories so the
layout is consistent across packages (159 renames + content-rewrite moves).
Updates relative imports, vi.mock specifiers, and __dirname/import.meta.url
path resolutions where tests read fixtures from disk.
- Drop tracked tsc-emit alongside engine .ts sources (auth-storage/logger/
skill-resolver/context-limit-detector/pi.{js,d.ts,*.map}). These were
accidentally committed in a merge and the stale pi.js was masking a real
test-mock vs source mismatch (tests imported "../pi.js" and vite preferred
the stale build over pi.ts).
- Add packages/engine/.gitignore to block future src/*.{js,d.ts,map}.
- Refactor plugin pi-module seams (openclaw/paperclip/hermes) to ESM-import
createFnAgent / promptWithFallback / describeModel from @fusion/engine
instead of require()-ing packages/engine/src/pi.js. Adds @fusion/engine to
the two plugin package.jsons that were missing it; exports describeModel
from the engine public API.
- Fix engine test mocks now that they run against current pi.ts: add
ModelRegistry.create static to mocks in pi.test.ts and pi-create-fn-agent
.test.ts; switch three boundary-result toEqual assertions to toMatchObject
so the new content/isError fields don't trip exact-match comparison.

Introduce a shared test-utils module and global vitest setup that
guarantee tests never write to the real .fusion directory or leak temp
directories under /tmp.
Infrastructure:
- packages/core/src/__test-utils__/workspace.ts — tempWorkspace(),
useIsolatedCwd(), trackForCleanup(), assertOutsideRealFusion() with
auto-cleanup in afterEach.
- packages/core/src/__test-utils__/vitest-setup.ts — per-worker guard:
chdirs each worker into an isolated tmp dir, wraps process.chdir to
refuse the real .fusion, scopes tmp dirs under fusion-test-workers/
(skips cwd change in thread-pool workers where chdir isn't supported).
- packages/core/src/__test-utils__/vitest-teardown.ts — globalSetup
hook that wipes the shared parent even when workers are SIGKILLed.
- scripts/check-test-isolation.mjs + `test:isolated` / `test:check-
isolation` scripts for CI.
- @fusion/test-utils alias + setupFiles + globalSetup wired into core,
cli, engine, dashboard, tui vitest configs; matching tsconfig paths.
Test refactors (no behavior change):
- cli provider-settings, auth-paths, provider-auth — switch leaking
mkdtempSync calls to tempWorkspace().
- core migration, first-run, store-backward-compat — replace manual
process.chdir save/restore with useIsolatedCwd().
- tui fusion-context — replace 9 hardcoded tmp paths (collision-prone
under parallelism) with tempWorkspace().
- dashboard useTheme, FileBrowser, TaskCard — resolve source-file reads
against a PACKAGE_ROOT computed from import.meta.url instead of cwd,
so tests don't depend on the process working directory.
Verified: full suite (~15,500 tests across 8 packages + plugins) passes
and the orphan-detector reports zero leaked temp directories after a
complete run.
