Third recurrence of the Task Detail right-padding bug (FN-8630/FN-8634): those
fixes only covered the .modal-overlay shells, while every tablet task popup and
floating terminal renders through FloatingWindow, whose shared body carries
FN-8015's margin-inline-end scrollbar gutter — a 16px right border with a 0px
left one. Tablet-mode windows (.floating-window--tablet, keyed on viewport MODE
so non-touch tablet widths match too) now zero the gutter; touch never grabs
scrollbar thumbs, so the desktop hot-zone conflict FN-8015 solves cannot occur.
GitHub-import's detail panel, which used the gutter as its right inset,
compensates locally. Desktop keeps the FN-8015 contract.
Also per operator request: the floating terminal is draggable from the empty
strip space behind the tabs and anywhere in the top toolbar, not only the
FN-8633 grip. Tab presses keep stopPropagation (scoped to .terminal-tab) so
they never start a window drag; the tablet floating header supersedes the
pan-x contract with touch-action: none (an overflowing strip is replaced by
the mobile-tabs dropdown, so no visible strip pans horizontally).

Suspend poll/SSE work when the tab is hidden, cap log buffers, restore board scroll more reliably, and improve list windowing/live tickers with related tests and a mobile-tab retention changeset.
On some systems the terminal opened blank — buffered prompt present but
never painted (renderer stalled at init: WebGL activation on a zero-sized
canvas or context-loss fallback). Every automatic recovery path fit() but
never refreshed, and fit() with unchanged cols/rows triggers no internal
xterm repaint, so only user input, a font-size change, or a new tab
repaired it. Observer/geometry-driven fits in TerminalModal and
SessionTerminal now always follow fit() with an explicit full-viewport
terminal.refresh(0, rows-1).

- Ctrl/Cmd+V with no clipboard API (or after a denied read) now returns
false WITHOUT preventDefault: xterm skips key handling and the browser's
default paste fires xterm's helper-textarea listener once. Returning true
made non-mac xterm inject \x16 and cancel the native paste (verified
against xterm 5.5.0 _keyDown).
- A denied clipboard read sets a sticky ref so later pastes use the native
path instead of being preventDefaulted into zero delivery.
- Custom-path delivery goes through terminal.paste() to restore bracketed
paste and newline normalization.

auto-create, but TerminalModal showed an endless 'Starting terminal...'
spinner whose only escape was the tab-strip '+'. useTerminalSessions now
exposes autoCreateDisabled and the modal renders an explicit 'Start
terminal' action instead. All-inactive persisted tab payloads are also
normalized on restore so the spinner can't wedge on activeTab=null.
Paste: attachCustomKeyEventHandler returning false does not cancel the
browser's default paste, so Ctrl/Cmd+V delivered the payload twice (custom
clipboard read + xterm helper-textarea paste event). preventDefault() makes
the custom read the single path; when the async clipboard API is missing
(non-HTTPS remote access, older Firefox) the handler returns true so the
native paste path works instead of paste being dead.

fix it and is reverted here). styles.css has a mobile-only reset
`@media (max-width: 768px) { * { max-width: 100% } }` to prevent horizontal
overflow. That universal selector also matches xterm's hidden character-measurement
subtree (`.xterm-helpers` / `.xterm-char-measure-element`). That subtree's containing
block (`.xterm-helpers`) is a 0x0 absolutely-positioned box, so `max-width: 100%`
resolves to `max-width: 0` and hard-caps xterm's character-cell measurement at 0.
FitAddon.fit() then proposes 0 columns/rows and `.xterm-screen` (plus the WebGL
canvas) collapses to 0x0 — the prompt streams in and is written into xterm's row DOM
but paints into a zero-size box, so the terminal is blank. Mobile-only, which is why
desktop always rendered fine.
Reproduced live via mobile emulation: `.xterm-char-measure-element` measured 0 while
an identical monospace span in the same container measured ~295px; `max-width: none`
on the measure element restored ~295px, and reopening the terminal with the exemption
active rendered the prompt with `.xterm-screen` sized 369x760. No amount of
remeasure/refit can fix this — the CSS re-caps the measurement to 0 every time — so
the FN-7692 CharSizeService guard is removed.
- Exempt `.xterm-helpers` / `.xterm-char-measure-element` from the mobile max-width
reset in styles.css (covers both TerminalModal and SessionTerminal)
- Revert the ineffective FN-7692 remeasure guard and its tests

the shell prompt had already streamed in. Root cause (reproduced live): on the
mobile fullscreen layout xterm's CharSizeService can measure a 0-width character
cell, so FitAddon.fit() proposes 0 columns/rows and .xterm-screen (plus the WebGL
canvas) collapses to 0x0 — prompt bytes arrive and are written into xterm's row
DOM but paint into a zero-size box. Renderer-independent and mobile-layout-
specific; not fixed by resize/font-size re-fits because prior guards only validate
the container width and font load, never the resulting measured screen/cell width.
Add guardAgainstCollapsedTerminalScreen (app/utils/terminalPreferences.ts) and arm
it from both terminal surfaces (TerminalModal + SessionTerminal) right after their
initial fit. While the container has a width but .xterm-screen does not, it forces
a genuine DOM-strategy remeasure (forceTerminalFontRemeasure) + fit, re-driven by a
ResizeObserver until the screen has a real width. It waits (does not give up) while
the container is not yet measurable, is bounded so it never spins, and is disposed
on every re-init/close path. Recurrence of FN-7620/FN-7686.
- Add isTerminalScreenCollapsed + guardAgainstCollapsedTerminalScreen with tests
- Wire + dispose the guard across all xterm (re)init/close paths in both surfaces

Fixes recurrence #4 of the mobile terminal excess character-spacing bug: SessionTerminal and TerminalModal now force a second genuine xterm font remeasure AFTER fitAddon.fit() settles the post-fit column count, since handleResize() never re-bakes DomRenderer's letter-spacing compensation itself.
- SessionTerminal.tsx: call forceTerminalFontRemeasure() again after fit()/sendResizeMessage() in the resize handler, re-baking spacing against the settled (post-fit) column count instead of the stale pre-fit one.
- TerminalModal.tsx: same second forceTerminalFontRemeasure() call after fitAddon.fit()/sendResize() in its resize handling path.
- Expanded SessionTerminal.test.tsx and TerminalModal.test.tsx coverage to assert the post-fit remeasure occurs.
- Added docs/solutions/ui-bugs/xterm-options-noop-remeasure-after-font-settle.md documenting recurrence #4 root cause (DomRenderer._setDefaultSpacing() never recomputes from handleResize()).

Corner-pins the mobile terminal header's close (X) button so it renders last in flex order and hugs the top-right edge, instead of falling back to order:0 and landing at the far left of the header.

The no-dim/no-blur override only applied to docked/floating; a terminal that was neither (mobile/default sheet) fell back to the dimmed base .modal-overlay. Always carry a base terminal-modal-overlay class + a rule that clears background+blur for every terminal state.

Move Clear / Shortcuts / Preferences from the top toolbar into the bottom footer next to the text-size control; text-size sits at the far left, then the action cluster, then connection status pushed right. The pop-out toggle is now icon-only (Maximize2/Minimize2, aria-label/title kept). Footer wraps + the action cluster scrolls on narrow widths.

Verified against the live DOM: a panel z-index is trapped inside the position:fixed overlay's stacking context, so page elements that are themselves stacking contexts in body (the right dock at position:absolute z-index:20, card badge contexts) painted OVER the modal, and tap-to-front (which raised the panel z) had no effect at the body level. Move the dynamic shared-stack z onto each modal's fixed overlay (FloatingWindow, RightDockExpandModal, TerminalModal floating, NewTaskModal floating) so the whole window sits at the shared band in body's stacking context — modals now paint above all page content and tapping reliably brings a window to the front across types.

Root causes of modals being overlapped + tap-to-front not working across types:
- Only FloatingWindow was portaled; the dock pop-out, terminal, and New Task rendered inline in their own stacking contexts, so the shared z-counter could not order them across types. Portal all three to document.body so all four floating modals share the one root stacking context.
- The floating band started at 4000, below page overlays/popovers at 10000-10001 (log viewer, workflow editor, selection popover, fullscreen overlay) which painted over the modals. Raise the shared band base to 10100. Toasts already sit at 200 (below), unaffected.
- Update RightDock dock-toggle test to the current behavior (popping out closes the dock; the floating modal survives) and fix NewTaskModal keyboard-vars test to query the portaled modal from document.

- Spaced-glyph rendering on fold: FitAddon could fit while the container width was mid-fold-transition, computing a wrong cell width. Add a deferred rAF re-fit once width settles + an orientationchange listener so columns re-settle after a fold/rotate.
- Shortcut bar now scrolls horizontally: keys are flex:0 0 auto (kept intrinsic width so the row overflows) with touch-action:pan-x + overscroll-behavior-x:contain + momentum scroll.

- Floating modals (FloatingWindow, right-dock pop-out, terminal, New Task) now share one z-index stack (floatingWindowStack) — tapping any one raises it above all others regardless of type. Floating overlays reset to z-index:auto so panels interleave in the shared 4000+ band.
- TaskChatTab tests: the test i18n now resolves the entryCount/toolCallCount plural forms (production already had them) so '2 entries'/'7 tool calls' render; fixed stale 'Tool call → result/error' casing to match the rendered 'Result'/'Error'. All 179 pass.
